Staff Team

The school is a registered Charity (Reg No 1056074) with a board of Trustees who act in an advisory capacity. The Director of Studies and Business Manager are responsible for the day-to-day running of the school.

James Dennis

Director of Studies, Teacher & Exams Officer
, DELTA

James has worked here since 2013. He originally studied Food Science and worked for the chocolate manufacturer Cadbury, but realised he preferred languages to chocolate and so became an English teacher in 2009. He taught in Russia and the Czech Republic, as well as at summer schools in the UK, before joining CLS. He became Director of Studies in 2020, though he continues to teach regularly. In his spare time he likes spending time with his wife and son and cycling. James is originally from Devon and so his favourite football team is Plymouth Argyle.

I like teaching at Central Language School because it really cares for its students and they are truly its first priority. It’s also a really friendly team.

Bethany Tranter

Assistant Director of Studies
, DELTA

Bethany originally comes from Oxfordshire (controversial in Cambridge, but don’t hold that against her too much!). She studied French and Linguistics at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, where she first discovered a love of English teaching. She taught in Scotland, Ecuador and Spain for 4 years and has been in Cambridge since 2017. In her free time, Bethany likes practising her Spanish, cycling, cooking, making cards, Scottish dancing and going for walks in the woods.

I really love working in the warm, family atmosphere at Central Language School Cambridge and being part of a team who aim to support students in every way possible. I also appreciate being able to take things that I enjoy in my everyday life and turn them into fun activities for the social program.

Daniel Lowe

Teacher
, CELTA

Daniel studied History at the University of Aberdeen, but his love for languages and working with people led him to become an English teacher. Before teaching, he spent time volunteering and studying in Hungary, working with adults with cognitive disabilities and learning the language. Daniel started working at Central Language School in Spring 2024. Outside of teaching, he enjoys playing chess, cycling, and occasionally playing the saxophone and piano.

From the moment I first visited CLS, I knew it was a special place because of the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a school that truly values its students and feels like a family.

Kennedy Emokpaire

Teacher
, CELTA

Kennedy did Media & Cultural Studies at University as he was interested in how to engage culturally with others. He then trained as an English language teacher and worked at a busy school in London. Kennedy moved to Cambridge 3 years ago with his wife and 2 daughters to start training for ministry in the Church of England, and he started teaching at CLS in Summer 2024. Kennedy’s other interests are reading, films, music and walks.

In the past years it’s been a joy to share in my other passions including language and how it works. I like to enable connections and helping people from different parts of the world connect with the English language.

Sian Serrano

Business Manager

Sian has worked at the school since 2003 and therefore knows a lot about the school and its history. She also worked at 3 other language schools in Cambridge before coming here. Having studied Spanish and French, Sian enjoys meeting people from other countries. Sian manages all the non-academic side of the school, so she will be helping you from when you first enquire about our courses until when you have left the school. When she’s not at work, Sian is kept busy looking after her family.

I find it very rewarding to finally meet students after exchanging so many emails with them.

Karin Lack

Office Administrator

Karin has worked in many places and in other language schools but was the CLS Accommodation Officer for several years. After a break for a few years, she then returned to help in the office one day a week. Originally from Argentina she knows what it’s like to be in a different country and having to adjust to all new experiences.

Nothing compares to the warmth and care both students and staff receive at CLS.

Anne Fraser

Office Administrator

Anne has many years experience in administration, including in primary schools, churches and local government departments.  Having moved to this area from Wales in 2025, Anne is a great asset in the CLS office, usually 2 days a week.  When Anne is not working, she can be found exploring the area with family and friends, reading or engaged in a knitting, sewing or crochet craft project!

I enjoy the variety of being at CLS, and value spending time with the students and staff in such a friendly place.
